Is Macron for Real on Ukraine?
French President doesn't rule out sending troops to Ukraine. Real? Or political theater?
French President Emmanuel Macron hosted a meeting of 30 European and other leaders to talk about Ukraine yesterday. Some progress was made, including France finally agreeing to use EU funds to buy non-European munitions and weapons to help Ukraine.
But the meeting was upended by a striking statement Macron made in a press conference to wrap up the meeting. “We will do everything needed so Russia cannot win the war,” he said. Asked whether the West would send troops to Ukraine,
“There’s no consensus today to send in an official manner troops on the ground. But in terms of options, nothing can be ruled out.”
The statement caused an uproar, with Europeans and Americans immediately disavowing the possibility and Russia threatening war with NATO.
I will have more to say about all this in a few days. But in the meantime, I talked about Macron’s proposal earlier today with Hillary Johnstone of CBCNews. Take a look (click here).
He's in deep trouble at home, and trying to distract. And as any other megalomaniac in his position, he's distracting with completely irrational nonsense.
