The US did not deploy missiles of any kind in Ukraine. Even after Russia invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea, and fomented an uprising in the Donbas, the US refused to provide Ukraine with lethal defensive weapons (Javelins) for years. After the full-scale invasion, NATO did come closer to Russia’s borders—as Finland and Sweden joined. Had Putin been Kennedy, all of this could have been avoided.
