Sadly, the same is now true in the Democratic Party (of which I am a member). All of American politics is now so thoroughly tribalized that it seems impossible even for Democrats to examine or challenge our own views. We've lost all objectivity about those who voted for Trump, Trump's domestic or foreign policies, and the man himself. We THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY have literally switched off our brains, and use them now only for the chanting of memorized tribal slogans.
To survive on Substack I've had to literally mute more than 100 posters who can contribute nothing more interesting or useful than the endlessly repetitive daily chanting of...
"TRUMP IS BAD, TRUMP IS EVIL, TRUMP IS A DICTATOR, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP, AMERICA IS OVER, THE END IS NEAR, OMG, OMG, OMG, AD NASEUM FOR EVER!!!!!!"
I've been a liberal hippy Democrat since before most of the posters on this platform were born. It's sad to see us come to this.
Kudos on a moving personal story and a compelling call to action. In line with your father’s concerns and the other analysis you cite about how democracy can fail, last June, I visited the exhibition “Hitler — How Could it Happen,” at The Berlin Story Bunker. It vividly documents why so many Germans were willing to overlook Hitler’s early authoritarian moves and repression of the Jews and other alleged enemies of the state because he promised in essence “to make Germany great again.”

Excellent Commentary and the correlation to Hitler's Biography to Trump rhetoric is absolutely true.
Ivo,
